Gallo. 1. the gallo is known as emblem of pride-what justifies the gait of the animal- and as emblem of France. But this is a notion recently, and without value symbolic, founded in the double sense of the word gallus: gallo and Gaul. The animal appears, beside mercury, in some Gallo-Roman figurative representations. It is also found in Gallic coins. But the Romans have made a play on words between gallus, gallo and Gallus, Gallic. This is the origin of the «gallo Gallic», that is the emblem of the country French (CHAS, 628-651).
